The Railroad Street Youth Project (RSYP) "Youth Operations Board" has asked the he Tricorner Peace Council to train a cadre of youth Facilitators for Great Barrington and the Tricorner area, because the Intro-Miniworkshop for RSYP in Great Barrington, MA was a real success. They had been wanting to develop facilitation skills within RSYP and now see that AVP can help them do it. We continue with an AVP Basic Workshop (7-8 June 2014) as the first in a series leading to that cadre (in collaboration with the Mid-Hudson Area Council, Poughkeepsie, NY). Laurie Scott, Lead Facilitator, is assembling her team of Apprentice Facilitators for the workshop. [flyer follows]
Hi Bill, I have two workshops coming up, one mini mini (90 minutes) with a Junior High youth group at St. Bernard's Church in White Plains (May 9, 7:00 - 8:30 pm), and one just in the thinking-about stage for the last Friday and Saturday in June
Turtle, Gregg, Bill of the Council and guest, Quinton Cross, met on Sunday, 13 April, from 7:10 to 7:45pm on Google Hangouts. With so few of our group represented, we simply reported and filled in Quinton on purpose and plans for AVP in the Tricorner area, including Hudson NY. He is a local activist and a friend of Jalal, Brooke and Gregg.
Please post your comments below, so that we can reach a consensus on how to proceed. On Tuesday afternoon, 15 April, eleven participants from the Railroad Street Youth Project attended an Alternatives to Violence Project "Introductory Workshop" to get an feeling for AVP's workshop process. Gregg Osofsky and LJ Amsterdam facilitated the workshop (as Apprentice Facilitators). Bill Leicht subbed for Laurie Scott, as Lead Facilitator, because she was not available. Although nearly half the participants had to leave earlier than the planned 2½ hours, RSYP felt that AVP offered exactly what they had hoped for and asked the Peace Council to schedule a full Basic Workshop in June.
